David Moyes signs new long-term contract as West Ham United manager

West Ham United is delighted to announce that manager David Moyes has signed a new three-year contract with the Club.

The Scot has led the Hammers through a resurgent 2020/21 campaign that culminated in a sixth-place finish, securing European qualification through league position for just the third time in the Club’s history, and achieving a record Premier League points total in the process.

Since returning to east London in December 2019, Moyes has made a hugely positive impact and his inclusive approach proved a perfect fit for the Football Club.

And that has been accomplished in the most testing circumstances possible, with the COVID pandemic causing a three-month mid-season break and meaning all but two matches since March 2020 have been played without the Claret and Blue Army present.

The 58-year-old, who is closing in on 100 matches in charge at London Stadium and 1,000 competitive games as a manager, is now looking forward to building on the foundations put in place by all at the Club and continuing to develop his exciting, hungry and ambitious squad.

“I am delighted to have committed my future to West Ham United,” said Moyes, who ranks fourth all-time in Premier League matches managed with 583, behind only Arsène Wenger, Sir Alex Ferguson and former West Ham boss Harry Redknapp.

“This is where I want to be and I’m happy. I’m excited to be given this opportunity to build on what we all have already achieved here. The owners and I are fully aligned with how we want to keep developing and improving the football club.

“The Board and everyone at the Club have been fantastic to work with, giving me great support and I feel that we are all united in what we want to achieve in the coming years and how we might be able to achieve those things.”

He added: “We have made tremendous progress in the past 15 months and that has been a collective effort from everyone at the Club. The players really have been superb but the challenge is for our standards to continue developing. We must keep pushing boundaries for consistent improvement as we all aim to continue the growing of the Club.

“I have said it many times before – West Ham United is a huge Club, with a wonderful fanbase and Stadium, and an enormous opportunity for further growth and success. I am really excited by the ambition that we have at the Club and we are going to work as hard as we possibly can to keep moving forward and hopefully give our supporters many a great memory.”

Joint-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold said: “This is fantastic news and we are delighted that David has committed his long-term future to the Club, ensuring great stability going forward. His strong work ethic and determination to build success in the right way have proved a perfect fit for West Ham United, and we are all aligned with what needs to be done to keep progressing and improving. The experience of the past 12 months has created a fantastic unity throughout the Club and we are very excited about what the future holds for our supporters.”

Moyes’ success has been made possible in part by the outstanding efforts made by his backroom team. One of those members – Alan Irvine, Moyes’ close friend and valued assistant - will remain with the Club in a technical advisory role as part of the plans for a new set-up, while first-team coaches Paul Nevin, Stuart Pearce and Kevin Nolan, as well as goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero, are set to continue as integral members of the Glaswegian’s backroom staff.

They may have joined in to take the piss but there has been a major kick back from Everton fans because Benitez once referred to Everton's ultra defensive performance as something a small team does.
Which is amusing

Not sure who they DO want but happy for them Spurs & Palace to go on and on searching for managers all next month

I'm hoping he has a budget for:-

Goalkeeper. Centre back. Attacking midfielder. Two strikers( one good enough to start a game, the other good enough to do a job from the bench).

Get rid of Anderson and Yarmolenko.

Yeah good news and the coaching team largely intact with even Irvine ( Father Ted ) still having an input. Our good form did seem to start happening soon after Nolan arrived on the scene. Might be pure coincidence but he does seem to be the day-to-day link between the manager /coaching staff and the players. I think I read he worked with the defence which seemed odd as he was an attacker but perhaps giving them insight into the way strikers try to get an edge at set pieces etc?

A top ten finish each season should be an absolute minimum for a club like ours now, along with taking every cup competition seriously. If Moyes could win us a trophy in the next three years then he’d gain legendary status. I reckon that’s one of his main aims.

Moyes sorted out the lack of fitness left behind by 'Audrey Roberts.'
He may be a dour jock who doesn't inspire me with some of his decision making, but we look like a proper football club now, and this is down to him and his coaching staff. If we get in three or four more PL class players the future looks promising as long as the two dildos allow him to spend a decent budget without interfering.( And we keep Declan Rice!)

It appears that Moyes has been given some assurances prior to signing the new contract so that is a great sign. The last 15 months have been exceptional and if we can continue doing what we’re doing then the whole mindset of the club can hopefully change going forward.

It will be difficult to balance the league and Europe next season, but that’s exactly where a club like ours should be. A few more solid additions to the squad would be outstanding.

After this season, I think we will stick with him, even through difficult times. I think/hope it will work well for both the club and the manager.

I didn’t want him gone. I was on the fence.

I just said it was probably the right time for him to go as the fans were never going to fully accept him and it wouldn’t help the team if the relationship deteriorated any further.

Stability is a good thing as my reference to John Lyall in my original post. No one has patience anymore and want changes all the time.

Most of our fans didn’t want Moyes to stay after his first stint and wanted a “Big profile manager”. Pellegrini comes in and spends loads of money and it doesn’t work out.

Most of our fans didn’t want Moyes back a second time and they were proved wrong.

It’s been proven over the past 32 years since Lyall got sacked that changing managers every couple of years hasn’t helped. We’ve won fuck all so to say “Look where Allardyce got us” is a stupid remark as it didn’t make us any worse than anyone else in that period.

My main point is let’s actually get behind the manager and stick with him even if we do go through a sticky patch. We have guaranteed European football for the first time in over 20 years (I’m not counting qualifiers in July) so he deserves a few years to see where we can go and not have the fans wanting a change after the first sign of trouble.
